A Realistic Military Transport Needs Three Elements!
A convincing military transport on your N scale layout consists of three elements: the right vehicles themselves, correct loading with wheel chocks, and the right figures accompanying the process. Only the combination of these three elements turns a simple flatcar with a vehicle into a believable scene, just like the ones seen during real rail transports of the Bundeswehr or the former NVA.

The Right Vehicles: Bundeswehr!
For a Bundeswehr military transport, N scale tracked vehicles and heavy wheeled vehicles are especially suitable, as they were, and still are, regularly seen on real rail transports. For example:
- Leopard 2: The main battle tank par excellence and an eye-catcher on any flatcar.
- Marder infantry fighting vehicle: More compact than the Leopard 2, ideal for mixed transport trains.
- Fuchs armored transport vehicle: One of the most widespread and versatile vehicles of the Bundeswehr, available in numerous variants.
- Unimog: Versatile and available in various configurations.

The Right Vehicles: NVA!
Anyone recreating a GDR-era layout will find just as wide a range of vehicles in N scale from the former National People's Army:
- T-72M1 and T-55: The NVA's standard main battle tanks, from different production years.
- BMP-1 & BMP-2: The most commonly seen infantry fighting vehicle of the East German NVA.
- MT-LB: The versatile armored personnel carrier of the Warsaw Pact.
- T-55TK recovery vehicle: Essential for a realistic transport train, since recovery vehicles also accompanied broken-down or damaged vehicles in real operations.
- 2S1 and 2S3 howitzers: Self-propelled artillery that adds extra variety to a transport train.
Alongside tracked vehicles, trucks are also part of a realistic military transport:
- Ural 375D & 4320: The Soviet military vehicle par excellence, widely used throughout the Warsaw Pact.
- Robur: The well-known DDR truck, often seen in combination with NVA vehicles.
- IFA W50: Another staple of the DDR vehicle fleet, ideal for mixed convoys.
Loading: Why Wheel Chocks Are Essential!
Simply placing a vehicle on a flatcar quickly looks unrealistic. In real rail transport, vehicles are always secured with wheel chocks so they cannot shift or come loose during the journey.
These chocks are therefore part of every correct loading scene, without them, the scene is missing a crucial detail that experienced viewers will notice immediately. We offer matching wheel chocks for both N scale and TT scale, so your vehicles correctly and securely "stand" on the wagon.
Figurines That Bring the Loading to Life!
Alongside the vehicles and chocks, figures make the difference between a static and a lively scene. Bundeswehr loading figures who direct and signal the drivers where to go are a fixed part of real loading operations, and that's exactly what can be recreated on the layout.
A figure directing a vehicle onto the wagon with an outstretched arm immediately tells a small story and draws the viewer's eye to the scene.
Putting Together a Complete Transport Scene
For a convincing military transport scene, it's recommended to combine all three elements: one or more matching vehicles, correctly placed wheel chocks, and at least one directing figure. This way, the transport doesn't look like randomly placed models, but like a moment straight out of real rail operations.
